| Many
people think that you need pharmaceutical or medical sales
experience to gain a position as a sales representative in these industries.
Up until
ten years ago this was true for a lot of the companies.
At the very least they wanted people who had an education with an
emphasis on science. The companies finally realized that these are
sales positions and many people who excelled in the sciences were
not good representatives.
Pharmaceutical
and medical companies now hire people from all backgrounds.
Age, sex, race, education and experience are not the major factors
in securing a position with one of these companies.
These
companies rarely hire people with previous pharmaceutical
or medical equipment experience who are out of work. If they were
any good they would still be employed.
As a
sales professional you have experiences you can use to
showcase your talent. If you have numbers or sales figures from
a previous job be sure to them in the interview.
When
we, at Pharcor, were in charge of hiring at both pharmaceutical
and medical equipment companies, we hired people who had sales experience
in many different industries.
As a
sales professional be sure to demonstrate your ability
to “close a sale” within your answers to interview questions.
Use
your ability to ask informed questions to show your knowledge
of the company you are interviewing with. Utilize PharcorLinks
to access information on almost any company in these industries.
